About 180 candidates in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination have been handed to the police for prosecution over alleged involvement in various examination malpractices.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that it caught 149 candidates for various examination malpractices in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination which ended on Sunday, March 22.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has postponed the 2020 national common entrance examination indefinitely over the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.

ASUU President, Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi says the strike became necessary after the Federal Government ignored issues raised by the association.

 

The University of Ilorin(UNILORIN) says it has screened four returning international students to prevent spread of Coronavirus in the institution.

 

Dr Idayat Adurotoye, the Chairperson of Unilorin Coronavirus Prevention Committee, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ilorin.

 

Adurotoye said that three of the students were Ghanaians while one was a Chadian.

 

She said this was part of the university proactive measures to ensure the international students are free from the virus.

 

She, however, explained that the results were yet to be released.

 

“Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the committee has put in place preventive mechanism to ensure no incident is recorded.”

 

Adurotoye explained that the committee had also made provision to distribute hand sanitisers and other preventive kits in the institution.

 

She urged members of the university community to ensure they observed high level of eironmental hygiene 

The 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination has been postponed indefinitely. The West African Examinations Council made this known in a statement on Friday.

Twenty four hours after the federal government ordered all educational institution in the country to shut down, the National Universities Commission has ordered universities across the country to close for a month beginning from March 23, 2020.

 

This is contained in a circular signed by the commission’s deputy executive secretary, Suleiman Rammon-Yusuf, 

 

The commission said the directive is necessary to curtail the further spread of the COVID-19 across the country.

 

“I write at the bearest of the Executive Secretary to inform Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities that as part of measures to contain and prevent the spread of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) throughout the country, approval has been granted for the closure of all schools for a period of one (1) month, commencing from Monday, 23rd March, 2020,” the circular said.

 

The circular also said universities shall be closed for one month as from Monday, March 23.

 

”Vice Chancellors are kindly requested to ensure immediate compliance,” the circular said.

 

When contacted Friday afternoon, the spokesperson of the commission, Ibrahim Yakassai, confirmed the development.

 

”It is a directive from the federal government to prevent the spread of corona virus, ” he said.

 

The Federal Ministry of Education on Thursday also closed all tertiary, secondary and primary schools nationwide over the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.

 

The ministry said it is part of measures to contain the spread of the virus.
