The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it has not cancelled the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates 2020 as claimed by some social media posts.


The Federal Government has reacted to the continued closure of educational institutions in the country over the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

Candidates sitting for this year’s West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations would know when they would be writing the papers after the COVID-19 lockdown.

The 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination has been postponed indefinitely. The West African Examinations Council made this known in a statement on Friday.

The West African Examinations Council has announced the results of the 2020 first series West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates.

West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results of candidates that sat for the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Nigeria.


The Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Mr Olu Adenipekun, announced the release of the results on Friday at a media conference in Lagos. He added that results of 9,457 candidates were withheld.


If you are one of the candidates that participated in the examination, checking the result is very simple.


Remember the smart identity card used during the exams? Well, the result checker pin and serial number contained on it are all that is needed.


All you need to do is:

1. Go to https://www.waecdirect.org. which is the WAEC result checking portal.


2. Enter your WAEC Examination Number in the required column.

3. Select your Examination Year

4. Select your Examination Type which is “school candidate result”.

5. Then enter the Card Serial Number.

6. Enter the Card PIN afterwards.

7. Finally, click “Submit” bu tton to get your 2019 WAEC Result

A total of 3,892 candidates, representing 32.23 per cent obtained credits in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics, in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE),first series for private candidates written in January.

WAEC extends 2020 WASSCE registration from 21st of February to 2nd of March, 2020. 

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has complained that its office has been inundated with reports from Muslim students, their teachers and parents that the software of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) being used for capturing during registration always malfunctions with hijab.
